Abstract

This article discusses the effects of hyperproductivity and toxic leadership on workers' mental health, based on a literature review grounded in the Psychodynamics of Work. The study revisits the analyses of Byung-Chul Han and Alain Ehrenberg on the logic of self-exploitation and the performance society, also engaging with Christophe Dejours, who addresses the pleasure-suffering dialectic and ethical suffering. In the Brazilian context, the contributions of Margarida Barreto, Maria da Graça Jacques, and Gisela Assad regarding moral harassment and institutional harassment are considered. The literature review reveals that the contemporary organizational environment favors forms of mental illness, manifested in burnout, depression, and anxiety. Based on this overview, it is argued that the Psychodynamics of Work offers valuable insights into understanding the organizational mechanisms that produce suffering and into institutional policies aimed at promoting healthier and more humane environments.
