Abstract

The present study consists of a case analysis grounded in Elderly Bioethics, from the perspective of the principles of autonomy, beneficence, and non-maleficence. Its primary objective is to discuss the ethical dilemmas inherent in the care of older adults undergoing a process of frailty, prioritizing the preservation of their dignity and autonomy in clinical and hospital decision-making processes. For the theoretical and scientific foundation, a bibliographic review was conducted using the Google Scholar database. The inclusion criteria comprised descriptors related to aging and bioethical principles, while exclusion criteria were applied to studies that did not align with the proposed theme. The analysis aims to foster reflections on the most appropriate interventions to ensure ethical and humanized care for this population.

Specialist in Palliative Care from the Paliar Institute (2016) and holds a postgraduate degree in Oncogeriatrics from the Instituto Israelita Albert Einstein (2020). Served as an attending physician for the Geriatrics Residency at FAMERP and for the Palliative Care team in São José do Rio Preto from 2016 to 2022.

Janaina Gonçalves, -

Bachelor of Business Administration from Faculdade Triângulo Mineiro (FTM) in 2001, following a transfer from UNA Faculty of Management Sciences in Belo Horizonte–MG. Served as a project manager in quality management and ISO 9000, obtaining ISO 9001 certifications between 1990 and 1998. In 2004, worked as a professor in the field of Human Resources at Faculdade Triângulo Mineiro. Between 2007 and 2008, served as a research analyst at the University of the State of Minas Gerais (UEMG), Ituiutaba–MG campus. Graduated in Psychology from Faculdade Mais de Ituiutaba in January 2026. Holds a postgraduate degree in Organizational Psychology from the University of North Paraná (UNOPAR) and is currently a postgraduate student in Psychogerontology at the University of Uberaba (UNIUBE), with continuing education in psychoanalysis from the Psychoanalysis Center of Uberlândia and Region. Participates in scientific events in the field of grief, including the 10th Conference of the Laboratory for Studies on Death and Grief (USP, 2024) and the 5th Luso-Brazilian Congress on Grief, promoted by ABM LUTO (2025).
